Weather

Pumba Private Game Reserve is situated on a tension zone between summer, winter and year-round rainfall. Temperatures range from approximately 15°Celsius to 45°Celsius in January / February and 5°Celsius to 18°Celsius in July / August.

The area has both a maritime and a continental climate. These climates, together with the altitudinal variations result in a variable type of weather pattern.

Simply put, the reserve’s climate is a warm, temperate one. There are not pronounced seasonal differences (such as snow in winter), which is why the Thicket vegetation does so well here. During periods of drought, fog is an important source of moisture. This is evident by the high incidence of ground and bark lichens.

The mean annual rainfall on the reserve varies from 600mm on the mountain range to 450mm in the main portion of the reserve.
