Packing for your Pumba Safari
Suitable Safari Clothing:
When packing for your African safari, it is important to pack light so that there is space for keepsakes and mementoes, but to be wise and prepared. Safaris in the Eastern Cape are especially pleasant because of the temperate weather conditions and profusion of animals. However, without the right gear, you may find yourself uncomfortable. Layers are important, as mornings and evenings can get chilly, while daytime highs are usually warm or hot. The following items are essential:
- Neutral coloured clothing (brown, beige, stone and khaki)
- A protective hat or cap with a wide brim
- A warm sweater / jersey or jacket
- A lightweight rain jacket
- A swimming costume
- Comfortable walking shoes
- Comfortable shorts and T-shirts
- Long-sleeved shirts and trousers
- Toothpaste and a toothbrush
- Insect repellent
- A sun block with a SPF of at least 20
- After sun lotion
- Moisturiser
- Lip balm with sun protection in it
- UV protection sunglasses
- Camera, film or memory card and spare batteries
- Binoculars
- Personal medication / prescription medication including headache, diarrhoea, nausea and re-hydration medication
- A sewing kit
