22 August 2019 Foundation: AMAZWI visit

The Pumba Foundation has recently been collaborating with the Amazwi Musuem in Makhanda. Formerly known as the National English Literary Musuem, Amazwi is host to a variety of exhibitions and work places that educate and illustrate the history of South Africa through its literature, such as poems, books, short stories, magazines and even movies.

The children are treated to a 3 hour journey through the museum with resident expert Basil Mills, starting with the exhibitions and stories of our country.

Next, the kids visit the beautiful natural vegetation garden that is so cleverly designed to fill the roof and space around the building itself. After further visits to the auditorium and the current year long local exhibit, HumaNature, the kids are taught about how art can promote conservation and awareness by drawing threatened animal species such as elephants and rhinos!

It is often the first time these kids have been on a field trip and the excitement is evident on all of their smiling faces!
