03 October 2019 Foundation: Construction of Brand New Creche Building

September has been an exciting month with our focus mainly on the construction and erection of a brand new Creche building in the Seven Fountains community. A small empty plot of land has been transformed into a creche that will be able to cater for 25 children to start, with potential growth of up to 75 children. Our teacher, who completes her formal creche teacher training course this month, will begin operating at the end of October once all of the finishing touches and furnishings are installed. Take a look below at the process!

The first stage of building the new Seven Fountains Creche went as smoothly as we could have hoped. The arrival of the pre-fabricated building was greeted with great excitement by the residents! The initial installation of the large classroom structure and the floor to the kitchen was fast and efficient and the bulk of the heavy lifting being done, with stage 2 being the installation of the kitchen building, the roofs of both structures and the fine finishing touches such as skirting, doors and other small details.

Our 2nd phase was also a smooth process, with the kitchen building being erected, followed by the roofs onto both buildings and the skirting and finer details on both. The large structure, which is split into 2 rooms with a connecting door, will be used as the classrooms, housing chairs, tables and all of the resources required for an ECD Centre (Early Childhood Development). Early Inspirations, who have helped to setup and train our creche and teacher, have specialised resources designed and picked out specifically for our creche. Two toilets were also installed in the creche area, supplied by a clever company called AmaLooLoo, which has developed a toilet that requires no water connection and is built to be safe and secure for children and adults alike. Phase 2 was also about connecting up water into the building and the toilets, with the hard work of digging being the main job of the phase.

The final steps will be getting all of the necessary resources into the buildings and preparing it for permanent use by the creche children. This will include a fully functional kitchen, classroom and toilet facilities that will be able to host 25 children, being taught by 2 teachers. With the building work done, the next few weeks will be about connecting electricity to the buildings, as well as installing lights and other fittings. After that, we will install carpets and curtains, along with storage and general classroom resources. A big thank you to our Foundation donors, without your generous donations none of this would have been possible.
